SCADA
Also known as: Supervisory control and data acquisition
SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) is a system that collects data from remote field devices and lets operators supervise and control geographically distributed processes.

SCADA systems are typical for utilities, pipelines, water networks and power grids. Central servers poll remote terminal units (RTUs) and PLCs over protocols such as DNP3, IEC 60870-5-104 or Modbus, and present the data on operator screens (HMIs). Because SCADA connects many remote sites, its communication links and remote-access paths are important monitoring points for an OT SOC.
